Today in class when we were studying about civic sense and political parties we wandered off topic and ended up discussing how being educated is different from being literate or illiterate. Our civics and history teacher Sarala ma'am described education as " anything that is understood and retained and assimilated in our head." In the beginning we all wondered what ma'am was talking about ,but when she told us the difference between being educated and being literate ,we understood what she meant.
When someone breaks a queue when you are standing in a shop ,you will often refer to him as an uneducated person (in Hindi unpad gavar). Here educated or uneducated refers to his civic sense, his behaviour, his manners, how cultured he is, how couth he is and how hygienic he is. And looking at the Government's definition of a literate person we can surely understand that there is a clear difference between being educated and literates. We can also define being literate as the knowledge we have about the different alphabets we learn and the degree or subject which we have studied.
Educating a literate person requires proper man power and people should be 'educated' about how they are expected to behave when they go to mall, when they are in a garden,etc.. They should be made to understand the difference between both of these. This can be a achieved by putting up camps at a park or a mall , the place where people go the most !
It is only when people understand and start behaving like the educated bit of our country that we will have cleaner streets where you don't have packets of chips lying of the footpath or paan stains on walls . It is only when the world becomes 'educated' will all wars end , it is only then all social evils will meet their last day and it is then when we can hope that our future generations will have water to drink! It truly will be THE FUTURE WE WANT.
